Executive Presence

Wednesday Jun 28, 2023

Wednesday Jun 28, 2023

The phrase "executive presence" probably conjures up images of someone standing at the front of a table or at a large wooden desk wearing a dark grey suit.  You might even think that this person is decisive, or an innovator. These traits are often assigned to someone with "executive presence", but did you know that a study of executives' characteristics by Gallup Strengths Finder showed that there is not a magical combination of traits that make up an executive? We discuss this and what the People Centric team has seen that makes up a good executive on this episode.

Dealing With Bad Ideas

Wednesday Jun 21, 2023

Wednesday Jun 21, 2023

Bad ideas exist. We would venture to guess that you have been in a meeting where a bad idea was dropped. OR you have had to execute an idea that you think is terrible. A bad idea refers to a concept, plan, or decision that is considered unwise, ineffective, or potentially harmful. It may be based on flawed reasoning, insufficient information, or a lack of consideration for potential consequences.
We discuss that what may be considered a bad idea in one situation could potentially lead to positive outcomes in another. Ideas can be subjective, and the assessment of whether an idea is good or bad often depends on the specific circumstances, goals, and values involved.

The Shadow You

Wednesday Jun 14, 2023

Wednesday Jun 14, 2023

In the field of psychology, "the shadow" refers to a concept developed by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. Jung believed that the human psyche is composed of various components, including the ego (conscious mind) and the personal unconscious. Within the personal unconscious lies what he called the shadow.
The shadow represents the aspects of our personality that we tend to reject, deny, or repress. It consists of the parts of ourselves that we deem unacceptable, undesirable, or socially unacceptable. These can include our fears, insecurities, aggressive tendencies, selfishness, and other traits that we find difficult to acknowledge or integrate into our conscious identity.
In this episode of the People Centric podcast we share how the Shadow shows up at work and what you can do to avoid these negative connotations and work toward the brightest version of yourself.

There’s No Crying In Business

Wednesday Jun 07, 2023

Wednesday Jun 07, 2023

Every time I hear the phrase "It's just business, it isn't personal" I cry. Because BUSINESS IS PERSONAL - we spend our time here, we work hard here, and we want to do well here. So to say that giving my time and energy and effort isn't personal is pretty crummy. But what happens when we feel sad or mad or frustrated at work? Is it ok to have emotions at work? Is it ok to cry at work? Is it ok to say that you are mad at work? We talk about all of this and more on this episode of the People Centric Podcast.

For many years the phrase "The customer is always right" has been something that managers have touted and employees have rolled their eyes at. And even more recently, in light of the entitled customer era, the customer is most definitely not always right. In this episode of the People Centric Podcast we talk about why it is more important to focus on the Employee Experience and not the customer experience, because, after all - the employees are the ones who make the experience for the customer. Listen now to find out more!

In theory, servant leadership sounds like every employee's dream. Servant leadership is a style in which a leader focuses on serving and supporting their team, rather than directing and telling. Servant leaders often listen and collaborate and take on whatever is best for the team. So what could possibly go wrong?! We will tell you: Accountability. And while Accountability gets a bad rap from everyone in the workplace, it is essential to creating a culture where people are happy, healthy, aligned, and empowered. Listen to this episode to find out more about how servant leadership can serve you and your team!

Tech Centric vs. People Centric

Wednesday May 10, 2023

Wednesday May 10, 2023

We have often said that one good outcome of the pandemic is that people embraced virtual meetings and video conference technology. The People Centric team was using this long before the pandemic began and we had several clients that just didn't want to adopt this technology. But when the pandemic hit many technology-resistant clients, friends, and coworkers adopted it quickly and effectively.  Since then, we have all had days with back-to-back zoom calls, video-called a coworker who was just in the other room, and (we know you have done this) turned off our cameras just to have a second to rest our eyes. And now, employers are calling for a return to the office even though we all know we can do our jobs virtually with a high degree of success. We wondered if it is possible to be technologically efficient and still People Centric. Is there a world where technology can integrate with people and relationships healthily and sustainably?

Wednesday May 03, 2023

We all make mistakes. We are all human and it happens - even to the most detail-oriented and careful people, it still happens! But what does it mean to actually "own your mistakes"? Is there ever a time when an apology just isn't enough - and what do you do about it then? And can we learn from our mistakes to build our skills? The People Centric team talks through all of this, and more on this episode of the People Centric Podcast.
